Best Sushi Spots in Jersey City

Jersey City has quite a few sushi spots so if you’re a sushi lover, you’re in luck! From BYOB and conveyor belt sushi to omakase and fine dining, there are plenty of options to suit all tastes and budgets. So whether you fancy a basic california roll or something a little more fancy, you’ll be spoilt for choice in JC.

To help you choose, here’s our roundup of the 8 best sushi restaurants in Jersey City.

Honshu

A local favorite, Honshu definitely deserves its place on this list of the best sushi in Jersey City. Voted one of the 50 best sushi bars in America by The Daily Meal, Honshu has been around since 2005 and serves a wide range of sushi rolls and contemporary Japanese dishes created by Executive Sushi Chef, Jason Chen.

My personal favorites are the Katsu-Don and the Honshu Roll but there are tons of innovative rolls and Japanese dishes to try. The restaurant also offers an omakase option, which includes premium fish such as rockfish, barracuda, tuna belly, sea urchin and blue snapper. Some of the fish is imported directly from Tsukiji fish market in Japan!

The restaurant is located just a 5 minute walk from Exchange Place Path station and has plenty of tables and bar seating. In summer you can down outside on the terrace, or you can order to go if you want to enjoy the Honshu experience at home.

The menu is created by Culinary Institute of America graduate Brian Kim, who experiments with new combinations, using fresh, seasonal ingredients. You won’t find any sushi rolls here – instead you’ll find delicious hand rolls served in seaweed, plus a selection of nigiri and unique small plates.

Omakase lovers will enjoy the Domokase, which includes seasonal oyster, a tuna cone, usuzukuri, pickled cucumber, kabayaki, 10 pieces of premium sushi, 1 hand roll, scallop soba and a choice of one dessert.
