About

Jersey City Insider is a local guide, written by locals. Started by JC resident and travel blogger Victoria Brewood, this site aims to provide the best possible resource on things to do in Jersey City.

On this website you’ll find lists of all the best local business, including the best restaurants, best bars, the best brunch spots, the best pet stores and a myriad of other things. If you’re new to the area, you’ll find plenty of info to get you started, including roundups of the best luxury apartment buildings, the best gyms and the best dentists.

With a population of roughly 300,000 people, Jersey City is the second largest city in New Jersey after Newark. It’s a friendly, diverse and inclusive community with lots of activities and events happening throughout the year. From Jersey City Pride to La Festa Italiana, there are tons of fun festivals here suitable for people of all ages.

Covering an area of around 21 square miles, the city encompasses many neighborhoods, including Historic Downtown, The Heights, Bergen-Lafayette, Journal Square, West Side and Greenville. Historic Downtown is a blend of old and new; the Jersey City waterfront is known for its glassy high-rises and offers beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline, while Van Vorst and Hamilton Park are known for their brownstones and tree-lined streets.

Jersey City is located just 2 miles across the river from Manhattan and is easily accessible via three different Path trains. You can also ride the NY Waterway ferry to Marin Boulevard, Paulus Hook and Harborside ferry stops, meaning there’s no excuse not to visit this amazing city. So many New Yorkers scoff at the idea of making the trip out to New Jersey but they’re missing out! The city has a vibrant foodie/bar scene, a beautiful waterfront and plenty of outdoor spaces, so there’s lots to keep visitors occupied.

Whether you’re visiting from Manhattan or you’ve lived here for years, we hope you find this site useful! And if you have any questions or suggestions for articles, drop us a line at contact@jerseycityinsider.com.
